About us

Empowering Young Voices

CM Therapy is a paediatric speech therapy practice that aims to provide quality services to the paediatric population as well as to provide support to their families. We value individual differences and use a child-centred approach. We provide education, support, and training to parents, care-givers, and teachers.

We are a small team of passionate paediatric speech therapists. Our consulting rooms are in Fourways and Blairgowrie and we see learners with special needs at various schools around Johannesburg.

We are forever grateful to Carla. She is an amazing person and we highly recommend her services. She is always honest, genuine and her calm nature is very helpful in difficult times. There aren’t enough words to express our gratitude. She fought for our boy, she enabled him to achieve what the Dr’s didn’t think was possible. A million thank you’s won’t be enough.

Understanding Key Terminology

What is Feeding Therapy?

Feeding therapy is a specialized treatment designed to assist babies, children, and their families in managing challenges related to eating habits and dietary intake. These challenges can look different in every child, it may be difficulty in consuming adequate nutrition, managing certain food textures or coping with medical conditions affecting their ability to eat. The aim of feeding therapy is to achieve positive changes in eating behaviours whether it be; equipment modification, positioning, oral motor strengthening, sensory modifications, alternative methods of feeding.

What is Hearing Screening?

Hearing screening is a quick assessment to identify potential hearing deficits or abnormalities in the outer ear. Issues like wax buildup, foreign objects, or infections can affect a child’s speech and language development. Early identification ensures timely support for healthy development. The screening tests your child’s ability to hear specific frequencies (500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz, and 4000Hz) at 20dB and includes an otoscopy to examine the ear canal and outer ear.

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is a term used to refer to individuals with neurological differences, such as ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other learning and developmental differences. It refers to the natural diversity and variation in the human brain. Everyone has a unique brain, and therefore presents with different skills, needs, abilities, and interpretation of the world.

Carla provided me with excellent assistance and support. I was struggling with breastfeeding and Carla was able to help pinpoint the problem and give me ways to help improve my babies latch. Throughout our consultation, Carla was professional and compassionate and continued to follow up with me days after the consultation.
